Treatment Options For Varicose Veins

varicose veinsThose visible veins are called Varicose Veins, which appear on your legs and feet are embarrassing and often uncomfortable. Are they red and blue and cause symptoms such as leg heaviness, swelling, or fatigue in your legs?

Whether you are concerned about their appearance, the discomfort, or both, Art of SKIN offers a couple numerous innovative and safe solutions!

Our Innovative Treatment Options for Varicose Veins

At Art of SKIN, we find a treatment option that is specific to your needs. With recent advances in technology, most symptomatic varicose veins can be safely and effectively treated via one of these two treatments:

  • Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy
  • Endovenous Laser Ablation

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy (UGS)

Ultrasound guided sclerotherapy (UGS) treatment involves no anesthesia and can be performed quickly from within our office.  Dr. Lubitz is able to see the deeper veins via an ultrasound machine.  When the vein that isn’t working properly is on the ultrasound monitor he inserts a small needle (all while watching the ultrasound monitor) and injects a small amount of fluid into the vein, which causes it to seal shut. It is then absorbed into the body over the following 2-3 months. No more unsightly or painful varicose veins!

Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA)

Endovenous laser ablation treatment also involves ultrasound for the deeper veins and the use of one of our state-of-the-art lasers to seal off varicose veins, diverting blood flow to healthy veins. Another minimally invasive procedure!  Endovenous laser ablation is used when the patient has larger veins and injecting a fluid into them is less likely to close them off.

EVLA is a treatment that Dr. Lubitz has been accredited for by the College of Physicians of Alberta.  There are very few physicians with this accreditation in Western Canada.

Both of these treatments are beneficial for both cosmetic and symptomatic reasons.

Let us assess and treat your veins!

Left untreated, varicose veins can lead to more serious problems such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a serious condition requiring immediate medical attention. If you are concerned about your veins, schedule a visit with us where we can look into the best treatment option for the underlying cause of your dilated, damaged, veins.

If you are bothered by persistent, increasing, or unsightly blood vessels on your legs, it is important that you know that these can be successfully treated in a minimally invasive way with a variety of treatment modalities.

Not all physicians are accredited to perform the procedure and you need to have an approved Non-Hospital Surgical Facility.

Note that new patients not previously seen at our centre and wishing to have a medical assessment of their veins by Dr. Lubitz (complete vascular assessment) will require a referral from their physician.
