What are Volumetric Fillers?
Dermal or subdermal (subcutaneous) filler injection is a safe, common and well-established method used to quickly restore or add volume and fullness to the skin, particularly to the face. Treatment with volumetric fillers is used to subtly or significantly improve the appearance of a tired or aged face by reducing the appearance of folds, lines and wrinkles. Injectable fillers can be used to improve your natural features and restore lost volume or to enhance certain areas of your face, such as the cheeks, eyes or lips. Most recently, fillers have been used to successfully restore volume to the back of aged hands to improve the appearance of visible blood vessels and tendons.
Types of Volumetric Fillers
A variety of different filling substances are currently available; the vast majority being hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic fillers (known as HA’s) are currently one of the fastest growing, non-surgical cosmetic procedures in the world because of their effectiveness, safety and predictability of results. Results can last for up to one to two years depending on the product used, the location of the filler and the skill of the injector.
Other fillers currently in use include Scuptra, Radiesse, and fat-transfer – the use of a patient’s fat taken from one area of the body and moved to another.
Treatment Options at Art of SKIN Dermatology, Laser and Cosmetic Surgery
At Art of SKIN Dermatology, Laser and Cosmetic Surgery, we use many different volumetric or dermal fillers of the Hyaluronic class, such as Restylane®, Emervel® and Bolitero® Fillers.
In addition to using Hyaluronic Acid Fillers, Dr. Lubitz may also suggest in particular patients, the use of a Non Hyaluronic Acid Filler such as Radiesse or Sculptra or Autologous Fat Transfer (using the patient’s own fat to correct a volume deficit).
Patient safety is our highest priority. At Art of SKIN Dermatology, Laser and Cosmetic Surgery, we do not use or encourage the use of the newest fillers on the market (there are over 100 different fillers now available). Dr. Lubitz prefers to use fillers that have been proven to be safe, reliable and lasting.
