What is Dry Skin?
Dry skin is quite common among the general population and is extremely common in drier climates such as in Alberta, or in the mountain regions of British Columbia. Nearly anyone can suffer from it, and most people of older or a very young age will experience it to some degree.
Taking regular baths instead of showers (10 to 15 minutes maximum) and using a good moisturizer after the bath may solve or significantly improve the problem. If dry skin persists, you should see a dermatologist. Extremely dry skin can lead to an inflammatory skin condition called dermatitis. Extremely dry, cracked skin can also lead to infection, and poor wound healing. A dermatologist can help you determine what skin care routine will be best for your particular skin problem and recommend skin products or medications best suited for you.
